Dolphin Quest is located within the Piedras Blancas National Park which protects rainforests and beaches near the Golfo Dulce on the Pacific Coast. It used to operate as part of the below-mentioned Corcovado National Park under the name Esquinas Sector from 1991 before becoming a separate park in 1994. Until the mid-90s, much of the forest in the park was severely endangered by logging, hunting, illegal fishing and even the threats of an ecologically destructive paper mill, all dastard endeavors in which Dolphin Quest played a significant part dissolving. Today we are proud to share the natural wonders of this hidden gem and unexplored national park with fellow nature lovers.

The largest park in Costa Rica and protecting about a third of the Osa Peninsula and 2.5% of the planet's biodiversity, Corcovado National Park is widely considered the crown jewel in the extensive system of national parks and biological reserves spread across Costa Rica. National Geographic has called it "the most biologically intense place on Earth in terms of biodiversity". Apart from being very popular with tropical ecologists, visitors can expect to witness an abundance of wildlife.

Mission Blue, famous for spearheading public awareness, access, and support of protected marine areas throughout the world, has declared Golfo Dulce a Hope Spot. Inspired by the rich biodiversity of this serene tropical fjord, the “Hope Spot” title was granted in an effort to bring much needed awareness to conservation efforts, particularly efforts to preserve the array of unique and vulnerable marine species that calls Golfo Dulce home.

When Dolphin Quest founder Raymond Klochko and Zoo Ave founder Dennis Janik discovered that illegally poached animals confiscated by the authorities were simply kept in cages until their death, they decided to make a difference. This is how the Release Project began on the Dolphin Quest preserve. Now, twenty years later, the project is a thriving success story. After proving the pilot program, Zoo Ave purchased land adjacent to the Dolphin Quest property. Confiscated animals are now given to the release project for rehabilitation and re-introduction to the wild. A variety of bird and mammal species that were practically extinct to the area are now successfully re-populated and reproducing; something that our family couldn’t be more proud of today. The only downside is that you have a few extra squawking Macaws and parrots by your window each morning…oops.

Founded on the passion of preserving the vast biodiversity of the Osa Peninsula, Osa Conservation is the pinnacle of sustainability in this slice of paradise that we call home. Their efforts are concentrated by a four-pronged approach of defending Osa’s natural ecosystems, engaging the community in environmental stewardship, promoting the scientific understanding of environmental issues, and building support systems for long-term sustainability. Dolphin Quest has proudly partnered with Osa Conservation for their jaguar population research, in an effort to bring jaguars off of the endangered species list.
